Hi, we’re Larry and Alex! After decades dedicated to education—me as a Neuroscience Researcher and Professor in speech, language and hearing science areas and Alex as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the public schools—we’ve embraced retirement as a chance to fully explore the world together. Traveling has always been a passion of ours, and now we’re making it a much more frequent pastime, one adventure at a time.

Throughout my career, I had the honor of being recognized as a world-renowned expert in my field, sharing research, mentoring undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students, and frequently traveling for conferences and meetings. Those journeys ignited my passion for exploring new places, and I approach it from the prospective of a scientist – research it thoroughly, lay out plans, consider alternative choices, and come up with the final plan. Alex, meanwhile, spent her years shaping young minds and making a lasting impact on her students’ lives as an educator. Now, she brings that same vibrant energy and enthusiasm to our travels, making sure it’s full of colors, culture, and excitement (much like she does on the pickleball court when we’re back home).

We’ve been to all seven continents, and truly to the ends of the earth, Antarctica last year and heading to Svalbard and the polar icecaps of the north pole this year. We’ve been to every state, and about 50 different countries, so we do have lots of travel knowledge to share. On top of that, my days as an FAA-licensed hot air balloonist taught me to see the world from a unique perspective, and Alex’s curiosity and love of exploring new destinations make every destination even more special.

From bustling cities to serene landscapes, traveling by ship/aircraft/train/coach/auto/bike/kayak/or foot, we’re all about experiencing different cultures, savoring unique cuisines, and embracing the surprises along the way. Through this blog, Savvy Senior Travelers, we hope to share our stories, inspire your own adventures, and show that life after 9-to-5 can be filled with endless possibilities. We’ll provide the fruits of our research on various destinations across all 7 continents, the details and tips we’ve found from our own travels, information on options and choices for exploring particular destinations, and helpful links we’ve found. We’re also really excited about what we hope will be a unique feature of our blog – we’ve met so many fascinating folks during our own adventures, and we’ll be providing interviews with them, covering unique journeys, favorite spots, travel lifestyle options, and tips to make your own travels spectacular!

Thanks for stopping by and joining us on this journey. War Eagle, and let’s explore the world together!
